What Is Your Goal

What is your goal?

—————————————————————————————

Weight loss isn’t the goal, weight loss is how you think you’ll get to your goal…whatever that may be. My guess is that you’re assuming it will give you some or all of the following things:

1. Positive attention from other people (this could be admiration, envy, respect, even jealousy…whatever floats your boat)

2. Confidence

3. Self assurance (removing self doubt)

4. Is one less thing people may judge you on

5. Health/longevity (maybe)

…this is just my guess, and I’m sure there are many others that I’ve missed.

Weight loss doesn’t get you any of these things by itself, but actually getting to your goal weight might.

Weight loss without a specific final weight isn’t a goal it’s just a process. Once you define your goal weight, then you have a target. Without this target you can fall prey to endless fitness marketing products, systems and lifestyles that have their own measurable goals.

If you’re not clear and specific with your initial goal, you can end up adopting and committing to goals you’ve never chose for yourself (ex: building functional strength) and that never get you to your real underlying goals (see above list).

In today’s podcast we’ll discuss choosing your own goal vs. adopting someone else’s. Although this seems simple, it’s very easy to find yourself walking down a road you never chose.

Defending Your Diet

What Are You Eating?

———————————————————————————-

Everyone eats. But everyone eats differently. The less common your eating habits are the greater chance you have of facing persecution from other people.

For many people the way they eat becomes an identity and a belief system. If you choose to eat differently than other people around you they may perceive your choice as an attack on their lifestyle and beliefs.

In most cases people want to see what you eat because they’re trying to validate their own choices. In other words, any persecution you face over your diet is never about you, it’s always about them.

In this podcast we discuss diet choices and the social challenges and persecution that you can be faced with by separating yourself from the pack.

What a disaster!

—————————————————————————————

Brad and I were on a conference teleseminar with the FDA and realized that the definition of the words “healthy” and “healthful” are actually controlled to a large extent by the FDA.

It’s probably no surprise to you that there is some government involvement in these words as they get used to promote all kinds of products from food, to supplements, as well as drugs and exercise program and equipment.

But in order for a government organization to control the marketing use of a word they must first define that word…this is where their efforts fall woefully short of meeting the mark.

In reality there is no universal definition of the words “healthy” or “healthful”. This definition must be a personal one and one that matters to you.

In this podcast we’ll discuss the limitations of trying to define these words and how to come up with your own definition that works for your life.

just because something worked, doesn't mean you know how or why

How the hell does this thing work?

————————————————————————————————————–
Diet, fitness and supplement  marketers are trying to sell you a solution for one of two things (maybe both).

1. Weight loss

2. Muscle Building

Testimonials and before and afters are commonly used to show you WHAT happened…ie: the person lost weight, or the person gained muscle.

So far so good. It’s nice to know someone else manged to do it so you’ve got some hope that you can do it too. The problem comes in when these marketers try to explain to you HOW it happened and WHY it happened.

It’s the HOW and WHY that creates mass confusion about fitness and dieting and leads to Obsessive Compulsive Eating patterns.

In this podcast Brad and I discuss these points and show you how most fad diets are just confusing HOW and WHY weight loss or muscle building works.

P.S. There is a volume difference between Brad and I on this one, I’m really loud, he is much quieter…he is also in a kick ass coffee shop so bear with us…we’ll have it fixed by next weeks show.
